5 Things To Pack Before You Get Your Hike On
O’ahu is home to hundreds of scenic trails — whether you’re looking for an easy trek or a strenuous hike, O’ahu has got your back. I mean, we’ve got three hiking options here at Kaimana Tours alone! No matter where your hike is, with whom you’re going, or what the weather may forecast, below is a list of 5 things you’ll need to make the most out of your adventure.
WATER. Heat exhaustion almost always has a direct correlation to the body’s lack of water. We cannot stress hydrating enough. The last thing anyone wants to do is black out at the end of a hike. Fill up your reusable water bottle, and pack it to go.
SUNSCREEN AND REPELLENT. Some agree that the two most irritating things ever are sunburns and mosquito bites. Hawaii is known for it’s blazing sun and plethora of bugs. Don’t take any chances, keep your skin protected and pack some sunscreen and repellent for the trek.
SHOES. Comfortable shoes are a must for hiking. Closed toe, snug fitting shoes with a solid grip are best. A good pair of shoes will lower your chances of falling while hiking, which will in turn lower your possibility of getting injured. Anything from regular tennis shoes to top-notch hiking boots will do.
SNACKS. A healthy snack will offer a boost of energy when hiking. Bring as little or as much as you like, but remember that no one wants a growling stomach at the end of a hike. Throw a few energy bars or a couple of fruits in your back pack and call it good.
TRAVEL SIZE FIRST AID KIT/WHISTLE/LIGHT. While we hope you will never need a first aid kit, whistle or light during a hike, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. All three of these items are inexpensive and easy to carry with you.
